My Work in Theatre

The theatre pieces mentioned here have each been directed and scripted by me. I used the process of designing workshops with the participants, based on different themes and their life experiences. These culminated into the said productions. From conceptualising the idea to putting the show on the road and staging it at different locations, I have coordinated the entire performances from start to finish, overseeing the publicity details, handling the logistics, obtaining required permissions, liaising with different stakeholders and documenting the resulting performances.

Pralaya- A Tale of Power, Conflict & Loss

“I go onto the streets dressed in my blood”- Heiner Muller, Hamletmachine.

It is this monologue, that forms a point of inspiration in the beginnings of the scripting process of “Pralaya- A Tale of Power, Conflict and Loss”. It explored among other things, the “politics of forgetting”. How overtime identities experience a conflict of existence, how what one truly desires and loves, may eventually be erased from the memory.

A Journey Undefined

A Journey Undefined

"Sources of inspiration, and the idea of a creative response to these sources, have always been the genesis of unfurling a theatrical experience. the most unfathomable of experiences have pushed forward a theatrical journey into its completion. Word games and sketches to describe ourselves; poems and letters written as a creative response to these; mundane little objects we hold close to our hearts; walking around the city to gather abandoned objects; a series of virtual postcards of our favourite haunts in town; a soundscape of the city; maps exploring smells and tastes; talking to people about their dreams; ......all culminate here to bring you this part installation, part performance- merging words, poetry, music, pictures, mundane objects, tastes, smells and sounds........A Journey Undefined.......A theatrical experience to tease your senses......."

This was an installation of objects and performances and explored the idea of how performers could engage with audiences through different techniques. The audiences had to walk through the space. the performers interacted with them through stories, videos,   objects and games. At the end each audience left with a different souvenir and a note.

Heaven of Freedom

The Heaven of Freedom was a street theatre project, based on the theme of freedom and independence. The performances took place in marketplaces, rural towns and the city, schools, colleges and other vantage points like popular haunts and squares where the target group audience would gather.

Milestones

“Milestones” was performed at The Crypt, Holborn, London. It explored a journey through perceptions of ‘places’ and ‘spaces’ that make ‘us’ who ‘we’ are! The idea behind it being the fact that we undergo a million journeys in our lives. We create connections, extract stories, unearth concepts. We tie and untie bonds. We explore myths and dig out facts. We become what ‘we are’ for ‘where’ we have been.

Identity an Experiment

Identity- An Experiment

“We are Simply Crowded!

(…with experiences, memories, exposures and ideas)

Hidden worlds, hidden stories, hidden connections and unexplored concepts excite us.
We love to play around with soundscapes, lights and shadows.

We draw inspiration from poetry
and our work is a blend of multimedia and live performances.

Currently we find ourselves right at the centre of the global village setup.

We are crowded by memories of spaces and places we have travelled through and the notion of diaspora is attacking our sense of being.

We invite you into our journey of self-discovery.

What some might also call ‘identity’.”

In Search of Solace...

This contemporary, devised, collaborative piece of theatre explored the idea of journeying to a place of solace. The making of the performance piece was initiated with a visit to the “Postmans Park”. Nestled amidst the noise and chaos of the industrial hub of London, this park was built by George Frederick Watts in honour of ordinary people who gave up their lives while saving others. The performance was devised through a series of workshops and amidst all the other sources of inspiration our individual ideas of what or who we turn to in seeking solace in our own lives while journeying through all the chaos and confusion that surrounds us, was a key point of reference.
